Fiat Auto’s new Ducato is the joint winner of What Van? magazine’s Large Panel Van of the Year award for 2002. In addition, Fiat Auto’s Doblò Cargo was commended in the Light Van category. The awards were announced at a ceremony in London last week.
Commenting on the award, the judging panel remarked: "If you’re going to recruit and retain van drivers at a time of virtually full employment throughout much of the country, then you’ve got to offer them a comfortable, civilised, working environment. That’s one reason why the recently redesigned Fiat Ducato has jointly picked up the award."
The judges were particularly impressed by the all-new cab interiors, excellent storage space, comfortable driving position, increased safety, ride and handling, frugal common rail diesel engines, and ease of access to the cargo area.
In the Light Van category Fiat’s Doblò Cargo received the commended prize, and was praised by the judges who commented: "We like it because of its capacious 3.2m3 cargo area and the availability of an excellent 100 bhp 1.9-litre common rail JTD diesel engine."
Kevin Henderson, commercial vehicle director, Fiat Auto (UK), remarks: "Attractive, durable and hardworking products like our new Ducato and the powerful Doblò Cargo JTD are not only getting the recognition they deserve thanks to this, and other accolades, but they also go some way towards accounting for our greatly increased sales ambitions in the UK."
New Ducato vans come complete with VanGuard, a three-year programme which now includes a comprehensive two-year manufacturer’s warranty, two years’ Fiat AA Assurance roadside assistance and a third-year dealer warranty. The AA cover includes free remobilisation of a load being carried to its destination, should the vehicle be unable to complete a journey.Published 9 September 2002
