Doblo Pulls It Off!

Fiat Doblo JTD

Two years ago, in Towcar of the year 2001, Fiat Auto’s multiple-award-winning Multipla won its class. Now Fiat Auto’s versatile Doblò MPV has just won a major award at the same event.

During an awards ceremony held in London last week, The Caravan Club named the Doblò 1.9 JTD ELX as its Under £13,500 class winner. In so doing, it beat off strong competition from the Mitsubishi Space Star 1.9 DI-D Mirage, Renault Kangoo Trekka 4x4 1.6 16v, Seat Toledo 1.9TDI S, Vauxhall Corsa SRI 1.8 and VW Polo SE TDI PD.

Some 41 cars were entered in this year’s competition, which took place over three days at Millbrook Proving Ground. Six judges assessed the cars on their towing performance, with points awarded for acceleration, traction, stability, braking and hill-starts. Cars were also tested by two separate pairs of judges for their ‘caravanability’, i.e. their user-friendliness and ability to comfortably accommodate passengers and typical caravanning holiday luggage and equipment.

Commenting on the Doblò, The Caravan Club’s magazine says: "…an immensely practical car with loads of space and plenty of low-down torque (it peaks at 1500 rpm) for lugging your caravan and getting away on the hills.

"Everyone said how well the Doblò handled on Millbrook’s twisty hill route, too."

JTD versions of the Doblò went on sale throughout Fiat Auto’s UK dealer network in February, and Fiat’s widely acclaimed 100 bhp 1.9 litre JTD common rail direct injection diesel engine offers customers great value and formidable performance, making the vehicle an ideal towcar.
