Dacia have announced the Sandero Stepway will be going on sale from January 2013, with the first UK models available for testing at Dacia dealers at the beginning on May. The current Dacia Sandero Stepway has been on sale in other non-UK markets since 2008. Prices in the UK will range from £7,995 to £10,795.
Dacia is the Romanian subsidiary of Renault, selling around 340,000 vehicles a year worldwide. According Dacia they were voted “Europe’s most reliable car brand” in a survey of 30,000 car owners in five western European countries last year.
The Sandero Stepway has 40mm extra ground clearance over the standard Sandero with SUV/Crossover styling (satin chrome roof bars, front and rear scuff plates and black wheel arch extenders) and a boot that will accommodate 320 litres of luggage with the seats up and 1,200 litres with the rear seats down.
Four metallic body colours are available Cinder Red, Mercury, Pearl Black and Azurite Blue.
The £7,995 entry-level Sandero Stepway ‘Ambiance’ crossover is powered by a petrol direct-injection, turbocharged, three-cylinder 0.9-litre producing 90hp, which according to Dacia returns 52.3 mpg on the combined cycle with CO2emissions of 125g/km. Standard equipment includes electric front windows, front fog lights and roof bars plus 16” alloy-look wheels and body coloured bumpers and door mirrors. Safety gear comprises standard fit driver, passenger and front side airbags and ESC plus front seatbelts with calibrated load limiters for thorax protection in the event of impact, plus rear seat Isofix anchorage points. You also benefit from Bluetooth connectivity, metallic paint and a radio/CD system with fingertip control.
For an extra £1,000 you can add the a 1.5 diesel unit (1.5 dCi 90) which outputs 90hp with a combined fuel figure of 70.6 mpg and CO2emissions of 105g/km
If you prefer a touch of luxury you can opt for the Sandero Stepway ‘Lauréate’ for an extra £1,800 over the equivalent ‘Ambiance’ model. It adds air conditioning, a chrome front grille, full electric windows and electric heated door mirrors. You also gain a MediaNav seven-inch touchscreen multimedia system with satellite navigation, AUX and USB inputs and four speakers plus cruise control, speed limiter and rear parking sensors. There is a height adjustable steering wheel and driver’s seat, leather steering wheel and gearknob and seven-function trip computer.
You can even add dark carbon leather upholstery (with synthetic leather side bolsters) is available for £600.
As standard the Sandero Stepway is protected by a 3 year/60,000 warranty but you can extend this to five years for an extra £395 or £850 for seven years.Published 3 December 2012
