Citroen Springs A Surprise At Geneva
Published: 11th March 2003
A demonstration of Citroen’s commitment to motorsport, the C2 Citroen Sport appears at Geneva alongside the sensational Xsara WRC, which has already achieved a flying start to its first full year in the World Rally Championship with two victories in its first three races - a win in Turkey on the eve of the Show to follow a remarkable one-two-three in January’s Monte Carlo Rally.
With its bold styling, swooping bonnet, square headlamps and giant flared wheel arches, which house awesome 17inch alloys, the C2 Citroen Sport concept car screams performance. Its dynamic stance and minimal overhangs promise to make it exceptionally agile and help it to look every inch a rally winner in the making, while the 225hp, 1.6 litre engine, mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox, ensures that it goes as well as it looks.
Also on the Citroen stand is the startling C-Airdream 2+2 coupe concept with its sleek, aerodynamic look, vast panoramic glazed roof and equally bold technology. Thanks to its drive-by-wire design, gone are the traditional pedals and gearlever to be replaced by a fixed central hub and steering wheel mounted controls for the accelerator, brake and gear change.
The highly original C3 Pluriel is making its final major Motor Show appearance before its UK launch later this spring. This versatile car can be transformed into one of several different body styles, including funky supermini, attractive convertible and practical pick-up, thanks to its ingenious roof design and two removable arches that run the length of the body.
Completing the line-up is a selection of models from a range
that is once again breaking records in the UK, with 2003 sales
up by some 14% at a time when the market is contracting. All
of Citroen’s latest models will be on display,
including the stylish C8 MPV, New Look Berlingo Multispace,
updated Xsara, C3 with SensoDrive gearbox and Xsara Picasso
Automatic.
