A wide range of 2.0HDi and 2.2HDi powered Citroens has been specified by North East Derbyshire Council in a move to replace the majority of its light commercial vehicle fleet. The Council is taking delivery of over 100 Citroen Berlingo, Xsara Enterprise, Dispatch and Relay vehicles – all specially factory painted in its Rouge Hermes livery.
The bulk of the order is for 90 Relays, including medium and long wheelbase 1800 vans and 1800 chassis crew cab tippers. In addition the order includes seven Xsara Enterprise vans, three Berlingo and three Dispatch vans and seven 2.0HDi powered Citroen Xsara cars. These vehicles will be mainly allocated to its construction services and environmental health divisions.
All the vehicles, which replace Fords and Vauxhalls in the fleet, have been supplied by Springfield Citroen, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. They are operated on TransLinc five year, with maintenance contract hire agreements. Dependent on their application the Council’s Citroen vehicles are expected to cover between 10,000 and 15,000 miles per year.
Steve Brunt, North East Derbyshire Council’s outside services manager, comments, "The Council expects that its new vehicle fleet will assist in achieving its objectives to protect, maintain and improve a clean, healthy environment. Citroen vehicles have been selected as a result of a careful assessment process in conjunction with TransLinc. This showed that Citroen had the product range best suited to efficiently match our widely varying operational requirements and offer the necessary long tem operational cost savings we demanded."
The 100 square mile area covered by North East Derbyshire Council, which is centred on the market town of Chesterfield, includes some 100,000 residents.Published 30 November 2003
