Citroen have ended the Swedish Rally on a truly high note, with Colin McRae and fellow Citroen Xsara driver Sebastian Loeb sharing the Rally Drivers’ Championship top spot with 12 points each. The team itself is now Number One in the Constructors’ Championship with 24 points.

McRae’s determined efforts over the past three days have earned him fifth place overall in the Rally of Sweden, gaining four points for his team. After a slow start, his consistent performance ensured that he was in the top five by the end of Day Two, saving his best ‘til almost last when he took his first stage win on Special Stage 15.

This result builds upon his impressive Xsara debut in Monte Carlo when he finished second in the opening round, behind team mate Sebastian Loeb. The 28-year old rising French superstar added to his own growing reputation by winning the first stage in Sweden and attaining a credible overall seventh place in the Rally. As a result, he has earned Citroen two more World Championship points and kept his own place at the top of the Drivers’ Championship Standings.

Carlos Sainz in the third Citroen Xsara WRC, was placed ninth overall, having set the fastest time in Special Stage 8, ensuring all three cars in the Citroen team were in the top ten in Sweden. His current Championship Standing is seventh.
