Citroen’s mould-breaking new C4 has won another award as thousands of Auto Express readers voted it their British Car of the Year, it was revealed today.
In the magazine’s largest ever poll, the Citroen C4 beat nineteen rivals including the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Toyota Prius. This latest award from the readers of Auto Express, the UK’s most popular weekly motoring magazine, follows hot on the heels of Top Gear magazine awarding the C4 it’s Best Hatch of the Year accolade.
British readers praised the C4’s distinctive styling and the car scored highly for its top quality interior, driving dynamics, and hi-tech driver aids, such as its unique fixed centred controls steering wheel and ground breaking lane departure warning system. Priced from £11,095, Citroen’s newcomer boasts class-leading levels of safety and security, and is available in sporty three door coupé and family orientated five door hatch versions.
Having won the reader vote, the C4 now becomes the British entry in a Europe-wide poll of Auto Express’ sister titles to find the overall Auto 1 European Car of the Year. The finalists will be assessed by a panel of judges, including Auto Express Editor in Chief, David Johns at a special test day in Milan at the end of February.
David Johns commented "The C4 sees a return to Citroen’s great design flair. Readers have quite rightly warmed to its combination of stylish good looks, clever innovations and its classy, contemporary interior."Published 15 December 2004
