A Handy Change Of Gear From Citroen
Published: 18th January 2004
Citroen C2
The "Use your hands for a change" advert will be aired on National TV from January 19th and features a C2 owner walking around town on his hands. The man is seen ‘kicking’ a can out of his way, tapping his ‘feet’ as he waits to cross the road, and travelling up an escalator, all whilst upside down, before sliding into his C2 via the side window and driving off using his hands to change gear!
Although SensoDrive is a manual gearbox it has no clutch pedal, so simply flicking the up or down paddles located behind the steering wheel operates the clutch then changes gear – all in about half a second. Available in Citroen’s New C2, C3 and C3 Pluriel superminis, SensoDrive brings paddleshift gearchanges, more frequently seen in the worlds of rallying and super cars, within the reach of mainstream motorists.
The new driving experience offered by SensoDrive provides added levels of comfort and driving pleasure, together with a reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions of around 5% compared to traditional foot-operated clutch systems. Fingertip control of gearchanges also promotes safer driving, allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel at all times, whilst advanced electronics take care of the rest.
Great value prices for Citroen’s SensoDrive models start
at just £9,195 for the sporty C2 1.4i Furio, which comes with
one years free insurance, one reason why UK sales of cars equipped
with this new system last year accounted for one in ten of all C2
and C3 models.
