North Wales Fire Service has just added 12 New Look Citroen Berlingo Multispace 2.0HDi vehicles and one New Look Berlingo van to its fleet. These latest vehicles have been specified as a result of the very positive operational experience gained with an earlier batch of nine Berlingo Multispaces.
Dave Bond, North Wales Fire Service’s fleet manager, comments, "The new Berlingo Multispaces are a highly cost effective and economical solution for a wide range of operational transport duties. They have ample space to carry up to five firemen, with all their boots, leggings, helmets and other equipment, to training courses. In addition these vehicles will be used to transport officers on commercial and other public training duties and can easily double up as vans."
As part of their wide range of transport duties, three of the new Berlingo Multispaces are also equipped to act as response units at major incidents. For this duty these three vehicles are fitted with Home Office communication equipment and removable roof pods containing blue lights and audible warning sirens.
North Wales Fire Service’s Berlingo Multispaces will each cover around 60,000 miles during their five year life. They join a fleet which includes 200 vehicles and 400 items of plant based at 44 fire stations. There is a population of 657,000 in the area covered by North Wales Fire Service, which includes the Snowdonia National Park and Anglesey.Published 17 July 2003
