Berlingo Multispace Set To Become Even More Desire-Able
Published: 29th June 2003
With the Berlingo Multispace recently benefiting from a robust and funky new look, the three Desire models will offer enhanced levels of standard equipment yet, in keeping with Citroen’s value-for-money reputation, will cost just £500 more than the equivalent Forte models.
Over and above the equipment offered by the Forte, all Desire models come with a CD player, front armrests, fold-down tables on the back of the front seats and foglamps as standard. Citroen’s innovative Modutop roof, with its overhead storage compartments, five tinted sunroof panels and extra 100 litres of stowage space, is also standard, as is the Modubox - a boot mounted folding trolley.
The Berlingo Multispace Desire is available with a choice of three engines. A 110hp 1.6i 16V petrol unit offers lively performance, while for sheer pulling power and frugality diesel buyers get the option of Citroen’s proven 1.9D powerplant or the refined 90hp 2.0HDi common rail unit, offering up to 151 lb/ft of torque and 50mpg in everyday driving.
The Berlingo Multispace pioneered the Budget MPV market in the UK, and has proceeded to dominate the sector. So far this year it has outsold its three nearest rivals – the Peugeot Partner, Renault Kangoo and Fiat Doblo - combined, with sales of some 5,000 cars, up over 32% compared to the same period last year.
