Citroen DS5 ReviewCitroen DS5 Road Test

Care needs to be taken over choosing wheel size for this car. Some launch models were equipped with 19-inch wheels, which look good and fill the wheel arches well, but at the expense of a harsher ride than you get with smaller wheels.

Ride and Handling

Compared with a Citroen C5, the DS5 is taller and wider, but nine inches shorter. It is a biggish-looking car on the road, but it contrives to drive like a smaller one. It feels quite nimble, with good body control and precise handling. The suspension arrangement is a McPherson strut design at the front end and twist-beam at the rear. Although the ride quality is reasonable, it is not as cushioned and comfortable as Citroens of the past were renowned for. The steering is quite nicely weighted and responsive, but it doesn’t give quite as precise and informative feedback as we would ideally like.

Ease of Use

The boot can accommodate 463 litres of luggage and is well-shaped and easy to access. Cabin space is reasonable, but the congested design of the interior makes it feel rather hemmed-in. From the driver’s viewpoint, you have the feel of being in an aircraft cockpit, with a bank of switches overhead in the roof area as well as in front of you on the dash. Due to the size of the rear windows and the presence of a prominent roof spoiler, the rearward vision is rather congested, so manoeuvring into a parking space demands a bit of extra care.

Rear seat space is not too bad with reasonable kneeroom, but the curve of the roofline towards the back of the car slightly restricts rear headroom, and foot space under the backs of the front seats is rather tight.
