With perfect timing, Citroen has announced that its new, ultra-economical C1 diesel model is now on sale in the UK, just as this great value city car is named Best Budget Car by Auto Express magazine in its New Car Awards 2005.
Available in Rhythm trim only, the Citroen C1 1.4HDi 55hp city car comes as a five-door model with a Recommended Retail Price of £8,455. The new model is well equipped, with four airbags, ABS with EBD and Cornering Stability Control, remote control central locking, front electric windows and a CD player all as standard.
Capable of stretching a gallon of fuel past 83 miles on motorway journeys, the thrifty C1 1.4HDi returns an equally impressive 69mpg on the combined cycle, as well as registering one of the lowest CO2 emission figures of any car in the UK - just 109g/km. And no slouch when it comes to performance, the new model delivers 96lb.ft of torque at 1,750rpm, with a max power figure of 55hp at 4,000rpm.
With its funky looks, 4 star Euro NCAP rating for occupant protection, generous specification levels and attractively low Group 2 insurance rating, the new C1 1.4HDi diesel combines style, safety and value for money to great effect.
Explaining the reasons behind the C1/107/Aygo trio’s budget category win, David Johns, Editor of Auto Express, commented: "The greatest strength of these machines is that they don’t feel cheap. The driving environment looks modern and has nice design touches, and unlike most rivals, no corners have been cut in terms of build and material quality."Published 20 July 2005
