Jeep has taken to the water with Team GBR members Laura Baldwin, Leigh McMillan and Mark Bulkeley in the lead up to the games in Athens.
This is the first time Jeep has been involved with sailing at this level and all eyes will be on the trio when the games commence this August.
Europe Class competitor, Laura Baldwin, has motored quickly through the sailing field to rank 24 in the world. Living in Hampshire, Laura started sailing at the age of 13 in a Topper at Ringwood lake near Southampton and since then has become hooked on the sport. With little support in the past, Jeep recognised Laura as a deserving sponsor for the brand which is renowned for its 'go-anywhere, do-anything' attitude. It is with this support that Laura can now ensure the best preparation for the run up to Athens.
Jeep is also sponsoring Team GBR Tornado duo, Leigh and Mark in their quest for an Olympic gold. Their spinnaker will be emblazoned with the Jeep brand message 'Jeep Rules Apply'. Second in the World Championships last year and in fifth place this year, these guys are hot prospects to bring a gold medal ashore in the fastest and most challenging class in the Olympics. Jeep believes that this sponsorship deal highlights what the Jeep brand stands for and is synonymous with the lifestyle of Jeep owners across the UK both on and off shore.
The three sailors are now driving around in Jeep Grand Cherokees as part of the sponsorship deal. Offering a range of versatile yet stylish 4x4 vehicles Jeep gives owners a vehicle to suit their lifestyle.
Steve Gray, Marketing Director of the Chrysler Group, said: "I am delighted that Jeep is supporting two of our youngest and most exciting prospects for sailing medals at the Athens Olympics. We wish them fair winds and good luck in the competition to come."Published 23 June 2004
