Chrysler Crossfire Takes Aim For UK Arrival
Published: 25th October 2002
The wait is almost over. The stunning Chrysler Crossfire, a two-seater sports car that combines American design with German engineering, is unveiled today less than a year away from its arrival in UK dealer showrooms.
British car enthusiasts, who have set their sights on Crossfire, now have the chance to see the car for the first time as it makes its UK debut at the British International Motor Show in Birmingham.
At full production, the annual build capacity for Crossfire will be 20,000 units worldwide – with approximately 15 per cent of those units going to markets outside North America. Just 500 Crossfires will reach UK dealers during the latter part of next year and so demand for the coupé is expected to be very high, with a retail price in the region of £26,000 to £29,000.
Under the bonnet lies a 3.2 V-6, 18-valve SOHC engine. It is coupled to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission and drives the rear wheels.
Chrysler will build Crossfire in Germany, in collaboration with Karmann, a long-time DaimlerChrysler partner with more than 100 years of manufacturing experience.
