Roger Jones of Newton Harcourt, Leicester has raised £7200 for NCH, The Children’s Charity, by bidding for a new Daewoo Kalos Xtra on the Ebay internet auction web site.
The Ebay charity auction was set up in December 2003 by GM Daewoo to mark the launch of its ‘Driving Change for Children’ project with NCH – GM Daewoo has provided 100 of its Tacuma MPVs for use at NCH projects across the UK. Mr Jones was the highest bidder for the Daewoo Kalos 1.2 Xtra at £7200, paying £205 over list price. GM Daewoo is donating Mr Jones’ full purchase price of £7200 to NCH.
Mr Jones was presented with his new car at Drive Daewoo of Freemens Common Road, Leicester by Sales Executive, Peter Lee. Mr Jones had been looking for a small, stylish, value for money, new car and having seen the Kalos on Ebay, decided to make a bid. Mr Jones said, ‘I was surprised to be informed that I was the lucky winner and very pleased that, through the generosity of GM Daewoo, NCH will benefit by such a large amount.’ Present at the handover was Simon Burne, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at NCH, who commented, ‘We are delighted and grateful for the support from GM Daewoo and also to Mr Jones for his generosity. The money raised will directly benefit vulnerable children, young people and their families.’
‘Driving change for children’ is a major charity partnership between GM Daewoo and NCH in 2004 and will run for at least 12 months. Supported by its nationwide network of retailers, Daewoo is supplying one hundred Tacuma MPVs, representing an on-the-road value of over £1 million, free of charge. They will be used by NCH projects across the UK by providing mobility that is otherwise out of reach for vulnerable children and their families.Published 26 January 2004
