The new compact SUV Chevrolet Trax has been awarded five-stars by the independent consumer organisation European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).
Launched May 2013, the Trax scored a respectable 94% for adult occupant, 85% for child occupant, 64% pedestrian and 81% for safety assist.
This compares to the new Renault CAPTUR SUV which scored 88% for adult occupant, 79% for child occupant, 61% pedestrian and 81% for safety assist.
Euro NCAP tested an LT trim front-wheel-drive Chevrolet Trax equipped with a 130 hp 1.7L diesel engine, it is also available with all-wheel-drive, and two petrol engines, a 1.4 and 1.6 unit, with prices starting from £15,495.
The Trax achieved maximum points in the side barrier test, providing occupants with good protection for all body regions. Good scores were also received for frontal impact while the Trax provided good protection against whiplash injury thanks to adjustable seat and head restraints in the eventuality of a rear impact. In the Child Occupant category, the Trax received favourable results in the side impact test and child restraint installation.
The Chevrolet Trax features Electronic Stability Control and speed limitation assistance as standard.Published 1 June 2013
