BMW 3 Series News In Brief

Economy

Carbon dioxide output at the tailpipe is just 153 g/km and, with a Euro IV compliant diesel engine for the manual variant, the 320dES brings the lowest tax liability to company car drivers. With Euro IV the government’s three per cent company car tax surcharge is also a thing of the past, saving owners up to £250 per year. Fuel consumption is equally frugal; the 320dES boasts 49.6 mpg on the combined cycle adding to the appeal for both fleet and private customers.

Service and maintenance

All 3 Series diesel models come with a free service and maintenance package. Valid for five years or 60,000 miles, the package adds to competitive BMW whole life costs and is fully transferable to subsequent owners.

On the success of the 320dES Bernard Bradley, General Manager Corporate Sales commented: ‘The 320dES encapsulates all that appeals to astute fleet managers and private buyers alike. Outstanding economy is married to typically impressive BMW performance. Add a touch of higher specification and low whole life costs and you have all the ingredients of a success story. We expect the 320dES to continue to triumph in the press – and to give customers a head start over the competition.’

The 320dES was not the only BMW to feature in What Car?’s Diesel Car of the Year supplement. The 530d SE, launched in September 2003, finished as runner up. According to What Car? ‘Performance is so strong, you’d question why anyone needs to go for petrol power’.

Enter the 320Cd and soon the 330Cd

In October BMW introduced the 320Cd Coupe, with the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that powers the saloon. Priced at £24,310 on-the-road for the SE model and £26,620 for the Sport variant, this Euro IV 3 Series Coupe will be joined by a Euro IV compliant 3.0-litre diesel in March 2004.
