Originally launched in 2009 BMW have sold over 40,000 examples of their compact Sports Activity Vehicle or SUV the X1 in the UK with 730,000 being sold worldwide.
The all-new BMW X1 has now been unveiled with on sale date of the 24th October 2015.
The new model is based on the underpinnings on the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and related to the new MINI Countryman platform. Which equates to more interior space than its predecessor - the seating is raised by some 36mm in the front and 64mm in the rear – the cargo space has increased by 85-litres to 505-litres with the rear seats in place or 1,550-litres with the 40:20:40-split rear seats folded down. Options include sliding rear-seats, a front-passenger seat with fold down back rest to aid with load carrying – you can even specify hands- free tailgate opening/closing.
All models, as with all BMWs will now feature satellite navigation as standard (from September 2015), options will include audio, and nav upgrades – plus panorama glass roof, LED headlights and head-up display.
At launch there will be the choice of four-cylinder 2.0-litre engines - one petrol engine (xDrive20i) and three diesel options (sDrive18d, xDrive20d and xDrive25d) with varying power outputs.
The sDrive18d is offered with front wheel drive, the rest of the line-up is all-wheel-drive on demand. The X1 xDrive18d and xDrive20d models come with six-manual transmissions with the option of the eight-speed Speedtronic gearbox which is standard on the rest of the range.
