Following on from the release of the new M3 Saloon and M4 Coupe, BMW have announced the M4 Convertible. It goes on sale on the 6th September in UK priced from £60,730.
The BMW M4 Convertible is powered by the same TwinPower Turbo 2,979cc in-line six-cylinder engine. It outputs 431 hp / 550Nm from 1,850 – 7,300 rpm which will propel the six-speed manual edition from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds or 4.4 seconds for the optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission. The manual transmission is capable of 31mpg with CO2 emissions of 213g/km, while with the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission see these figure improve to 32.5mpg and 203g/km CO2.
The seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission is a £2,645 option; it effectively combines two gearboxes, each with its own clutch. Shifts are therefore completed with no interference to the power delivery, enhancing both performance and efficiency. Gear shifting can be fully automatic or via the selector lever or steering column-mounted paddles, it even incorporates Launch Control to ensure the fastest-possible acceleration from standstill.
The M4 Convertible is fitted with an Active M Differential which aids traction and directional stability, especially when accelerating out of corners. An electronically controlled multi-plate limited slip differential linked to the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system assesses accelerator position, wheel rotational speed and car yaw rate to decide how much rear axle lock to introduce.
The DSC system includes anti-lock brakes (ABS) and M Dynamic Mode. Other standard stability support features include Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake drying and Hill-start Assistant. In the UK the M4 Convertible will also be fitted as standard with Adaptive M suspension with COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes.
The M4 Convertible features a powered three-part metal roof, which converts in around 20 seconds from Coupe to Open Top (at speeds up to 8 mph|). In the event of an accident there are two roll-over hoops hidden behind the two rear seat head restraints. You can opt for a three-stage neck warming air collar for front seat occupants.
The M4 Convertible’s core equipment includes Adaptive M suspension, 19-inch M light alloy wheels, the professional media package, upgraded Bluetooth and USB, front and rear Park Distance Control, Folding exterior mirrors and heated front seats.Published 4 April 2014
