The new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer goes on sale on the 27th September 2014 priced from £22,150 for the BMW 218i SE model.
The 2 Series Active Tourer is the first front wheel drive model from BMW and will also be the first to feature a three-cylinder engine. It has been designed to take on the likes of the Mercedes B Class and Volkswagen Golf SV in the premium compact SUV market. It has a footprint which is 20 mm longer than the 1 Series, 10 mm taller than the X1 and a seating position 20 mm higher and 110 mm higher than the 1 Series. It can carry between 468 and 1,510 litres of cargo with the 40:20:40 split-folding sliding rear seats down. The tailgate is powered and can be opened with a quick flick of the foot.
Other premium features include optional electronically controlled dampers and variable sports steering.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Engine Line-Up
From launch there will be two engine options, the 218i is powered by a petrol 136 hp three-cylinder 1.5-litre engine, as seen in the current MINI Cooper which promises 54.3 – 57.6 mpg with a six-speed manual transmission or 55.3 -55.4 mpg with the six-speed automatic gearbox.
The 218d is powered by a four-cylinder diesel unit outputting 150 hp – fuel consumption is between 65.7 - 68.9 mpg – and has the option of manual, eight-speed automatic or sport automatic transmissions.
A 225i will go on sale with xDrive four-wheel-drive from November 2014, alongside further models: BMW 220i, 216d, 220d and 220d xDrive Active Tourer.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Trim Levels
There is the choice of four trim levels at launch - ’SE’, ‘Sport’, ‘Luxury’ and ‘M Sport’ – core equipment across the range includes an automatic tailgate, two-zone automatic air conditioning, rear Park Distance Control, BMW Emergency Call, 40:20:40 split folding rear seat with electronic folding functionality and 60:40 sliding rear bench. Plus Bluetooth connectivity with USB interface and audio streaming functionality, BMW Professional radio with single CD player and 6.5-inch monitor, DAB digital radio, Performance Control, Comfort Go keyless engine start and Drive Performance Control with ECO PRO.
For an additional £1,250 over the ‘SE’ model the ‘Sport’ gains 17-inch Sport alloy wheels, Sport front seats, LED ambient lighting, Black High-gloss trim and Sport enhancements to the exterior styling. Or for an extra £2,000 over the ‘SE’ you can opt for the ‘Luxury’ edition that adds 17-inch Luxury alloy wheels, Dakota leather upholstery, LED ambient lighting, Chromeline exterior, Fineline Stream wood trim and Luxury enhancements to exterior styling.
For a £3,000 premium over the ‘SE’ - M Sport models will join the trim line-up in November 2014 adding the M Aerodynamics package, M Sport suspension and 18-inch M light-alloy wheels are complemented by an M leather steering wheel and specially upholstered sports seats.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer Options
Options include a full colour Head-Up Display with the inclusion of the Media package – Professional Plus. Parking Assistant offers parallel parking assist, which can scan for parking spaces and automatically steer the 2 Series Active Tourer into a space.
