As a testament to the refinement of Audi TDI engines, and the gains in performance and fuel economy permitted by the Audi multitronic CVT transmission, international transport company Burgundy Global is about to take delivery of 36 A6 1.9 TDI multitronic models for its chauffeur-driven fleet.
The new fleet has been supplied to Burgundy Global by Whetstone Audi in north London, and will enter service immediately to provide luxury transport for a wide variety of high profile international organisations including MTV, international airline bmi and Citibank.
Burgundy Global is the first major transport provider to seek an alternative to the usual ‘default choices’ for limousine work. The company has recognised the merits of the A6 saloon not only in terms of its suitability for the job, but also for its efficiency as a ‘business tool’ from a running cost perspective.
In contrast to the vast majority of automatics, the Audi multitronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) maintains performance, fuel economy and emissions at virtually the same level as an equivalent equipped with a manual gearbox. As a result, the A6 1.9 TDI is notable as both the most economical and the cleanest executive car available in the UK market, irrespective of the transmission specified.
Equally importantly, multitronic is uninterrupted by conventional automatic gear changes thanks to its step-less, continuously variable gear ratio, and so permits the kind of outstandingly smooth progress which befits a limousine. With 130PS available from the turbocharged 1.9-litre TDI engine, the A6 1.9 TDI can accelerate from rest to 62mph in 10.5 seconds, and can cover up to 48.7 miles per gallon (combined cycle), making it an extremely cost effective choice for high mileage applications of this kind.
Business users will also appreciate the fact that the A6 1.9 TDI falls into the lowest category for CO2 emissions-based taxation at 157g/km, making it the diesel car with the lowest tax liability in its class.
The A6 models specified by Burgundy Global benefit from highly appropriate features such as leather upholstery and metallic paint, both of which are now standard equipment for every A6 model in the current range. The professional driver, and the professionally driven, can also specify everything from a centre console-mounted television with Teletext to a rear seat entertainment system incorporating DVD player and electronic video games console.
The A6 range starts with the 2.0-litre, 130PS model at £21,055 OTR, and runs to the S6 Avant quattro at £48,655 OTR. The A6 1.9 TDI with multitronic transmission costs £23,800 OTR.Published 30 September 2003
