Apart from the engineering, this buys Silk Nappa leather-covered, Audi S5 sports seats with embossed logos, even in the back, aluminium scuff plates 'S' instrument dials and a multifunctional steering wheel with silver stitching. The interior is very understated, although there is a strong element of businesslike luxury, right down to the extendable seat squabs at the front and the push-in key fob that starts the engine.
Automatic wipers and lights became standard a trim level or two down, along with heated door mirrors and a driver's information system with a full-colour screen, Xenon lights with LED daytime strips and rear parking sensors.
There are quite a few optional extras available, including adaptive lights, a rear-view parking camera, a DAB radio, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and many more. Moreover, as well as the 21 standard exterior colours, Audi offer the Audi Exclusive programme, which allows for even more personalisation, including paint-matching to a favourite colour.
What I like about the Audi S5 is that it isn't overtly bullish and, although there are plenty of clues to its prowess, it doesn't make too much fuss about it.16 January 2009
