There is a choice of two trim levels with the choice of either ‘Sport’ or ‘S line’
For the first time a Saloon variant is joining the A3 range to run alongside the 5-door Sportback and 3-door Hatch models. Prices start from £24,275 and range to £28,105 for the top of the range model. You can place your order now with the first deliveries expected in the autumn of 2013.
The four-door A3 Saloon is longer than the five-door Sportback but still remains compact – it is 140 mm longer, 11mm wider and 9mm lower. It will accommodate 425 litres of luggage in the boot which is 45 litres more than the Sportback.
Audi A3 Saloon Engines
At launch there is a choice of three engines, two petrol - 1.4 TFSI 140PS with Cylinder-on-Demand (CoD) technology and a 1.8 TFSI 180PS – the other engine is a diesel 2.0 TDI 150PS unit.
The 1.4 TFSI unit outputs 140PS and can produce 250Nm torque peak which means a 0-62 mph time of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph. On the official combined fuel cycle 60.1 mpg is recorded with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.
The 1.8-litre TFSI produces 180PS and 250 Nm which will propel it from 0-62 mph in 7.3 seconds and then on to a top speed of 146 mph. The official combined fuel figure is 50.4 mpg and CO2 emissions are 129 g/km.
The 2.0-litre diesel unit outputs 150PS and 320 Nm of torque, 0-62 mph comes up in 8.7 seconds and the top speed is 137 mph. It is capable of 68.9 mpg and emissions are 107 g/km.
The 2.0-litre TDI versions come with a six-speed manual gearbox, and the 1.4 TFSI and 1.8 TFSI engines with Audi’s S tronic dual-clutch gearbox.
There will be other engines, transmission options including a quattro version with permanent all-wheel-drive.
Audi A3 Saloon Trim
There is a choice of two trim levels with the choice of either ‘Sport’ or ‘S line’. Both are equipped with ‘sports’ suspension but you can opt for comfort focussed standard suspension. There are 17-inch wheels for the ‘Sport’ and 18-inch for the ‘S line’.
They both are equipped with sports seats, Audi’s drive select adaptive dynamics system, dual-zone climate control, the MMI radio incorporating an 11 millimetre-thick powered folding screen and DAB digital radio, preparation for SD card navigation, Audi Music Interface iPod connection, a Driver Information System and the Bluetooth mobile phone interface.
The ‘S line’ gains part-leather-upholstery embossed with the S line logo and an S line sports steering wheel with perforated leather grips and shift paddles where S tronic is fitted. On the outside there are 18-inch alloy wheels, S line body styling and xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lamps.
Audi A3 Saloon Equipment and Options
From late 2013 you can opt for Full LED headlights on both models - there will be technology package with Audi connect MMI navigation plus, MMI Touch and Mobile Phone Preparation. The system is capable of connecting to the internet to view Google Maps, Google Street View, Audi traffic information online and Audi music stream, 'Picturebook Navigation', access to social media services such as Facebook and Twitter, the latest news, flight and train information, nearby refuelling locations graded by price and even a 'what's on' guide in specific towns and cities via its City Events service.
Other options include a panoramic glass sunroof, advanced key access and authorisation system, a Bang & Olufsen audio upgrade, adaptive cruise control, 'hands-free' park assist and an array of safety systems covering everything from motorway lane control to blind spot monitoring. Alloy wheels of up to 19 inches in diameter and there is range Audi exclusive paint finishes.
