Alfa 156 Sports Saloon

Pride of place on the Alfa Romeo stand at Goodwood during the Festival of Speed this weekend will be the restyled 156 sports saloon, which goes on sale here on 1 September.

The new 156 saloon and Sportwagon range replaces a model that has been reaping sales success and prestigious awards for over five years, including Car of the Year 1998. During this time the Alfa 156 has been the first choice of over 540,000 customers in more than 80 countries worldwide.

The new range has been elegantly restyled by Italdesign Giugiaro at Moncalieri, and features two state-of-the-art new turbodiesel engines (140bhp and 175bhp) as well as further revisions to the interior.

Also on the Alfa Romeo stand are the revised GTV and Spider sportscars, due to go on sale here this month. Featuring restyling by Pininfarina, the new cars become available with the widely acclaimed all-aluminium Alfa Romeo 3.2 litre V6 engine, and the company’s direct injection 165bhp 2.0 JTS unit.

The display is completed by classic and contemporary Alfa GTAs, including the 250bhp 147 GTA.

Also at Goodwood, and set to perform in front of record crowds this weekend, are five classic Alfa Romeos from the company’s famous museum at Arese. They include a 425bhp 1951 Alfetta 159 single seater, and a 500bhp 1975 33 TT 12 World Championship-winning sportscar.
