Revised Alfa 156 And Sportwagon In UK
Published: 23rd August 2003
Priced from £14,650-£21,410 on-the-road, this rationalised and restructured range, which now features 15 saloon and seven Sportwagon versions, is set to build on the success of the model most responsible for Alfa Romeo’s strong recovery over the past five years.
On 9 October 1997, the international press was introduced to the Alfa 156 at its launch in Lisbon. The appearance of this car, a medium-sized sports saloon that encapsulated Alfa Romeo's proud sporting heritage in a clean, stylish and obviously Italian package, set the company on a fast-track to rejuvenation.
Winner of no less than 36 international awards including the prestigious European Car of the Year award in 1998, the Alfa 156 and Sportwagon have tripled Alfa Romeo’s share of the European D segment – from 0.7% in 1996 to 2.5% by the end of April 2003, peaking at 3.6% in 2000.
