Alfa Romeo 147 GTA

In a blaze of flashing lights, Italian motoring marque Alfa Romeo unleashed its latest sports car on the UK.

Said to be the world’s most powerful production hatchback, the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA was unveiled to the press at the British International Motor Show, and set journalists’ hearts racing.

Due to go on sale in the UK next year, the new model is powered by the same acclaimed 250bhp 3.2-litre Alfa V6 engine used in the 156 GTA and 156 Sportwagon GTA.

The sporty new number boasts a top speed of 153 mph and can get from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.3 seconds.

On board eletronic systems include ASR to limit wheelspin under acceleration, VDC for stability control, MSR to modulate braking torque and TCS, which is active at low speeds.

PR director Peter Newton said: “The new 147 GTA is an exciting addition to our range, and visitors will get their first chance to see it in the UK here at the Motor Show.

“It’s already on sale in Europe, and will be available to UK customers next year.”
