Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition (2013)

The Alfa Romeo 4C ‘Launch Edition’ can be ordered for £52,000 but numbers are strictly limited to 400 cars Europe wide. Lucky owners will be invited to an exclusive event in Italy which also includes an advanced driving session with professional driving instructors.

The Alfa Romeo 4C is a mid-engined with the engine visible through the rear window. The rear-wheel drive coupe capable of seating two people – it 3990 mm long by 2000 mm wide, standing 1180 mm high. It built at Maserati’s plant in Modena, Italy but is designed by Alfa Romeo

The Alfa Romeo 4C ‘Launch Edition’ is powered by a 240 HP 4-cylinder 1750 turbo petrol engine mated to a sequential paddle operated TCT twin dry clutch transmission powering the rear wheels. The TCT system offers a fully automatic operation, should you wish. The performance figures are 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds (it has launch control) and a top speed of just over 155 mph.

The 4C has Alfa’s DNA selector which not only features the three standard settings available on other models in the range – Dynamic, Natural and All Weather – but also a fourth mode: ‘Race’, designed to enhance the driving experience on a racetrack even further. The full-digital instrument panel with TFT display changes to show only information relevant to the chosen mode - and colour in line with the Alfa DNA setting: yellow for Race, red for Dynamic, grey for Natural and blue for All Weather.

The car’s bodywork is made entirely of low-density, high-strength composite material. Benefits of using this material include lighter weight (it is 20% lighter than steel) and resistance to corrosion. Dimensional stability is comparable to steel and better than aluminium, the 4C only weighs 895 kg.

The weight distribution is (40% on the front axle and 60% on the rear axle) and to keep the weight down does not feature power steering – and to provide better feedback.

There is a choice of two liveries – Carrara White or Alfa Red – and is marked out by the distinctive badge, inlaid beneath the paintwork. It features a special carbon aerodynamic kit (including spoiler and door mirror covers), the rear aluminium diffuser with dark finishing. Bi-LED headlights are standard with dark surround and 18" (front) and 19" (rear) alloy wheels with burnishing treatment. The front air intakes, brake calipers can be colour specified. There is a racing exhaust system with BMC air cleaner and suspension kit with specific calibration for shock absorbers and rear anti-roll bar.

The interior features leather/fabric bucket sports seats with part Alcantara and is finished with a carbon fibre central cell with the dashboard and door panels have been given an “asphalt” treatment. The pedal unit and footboards for driver and passenger are all made of aluminium.
