The stunning Alfa Romeo 4C will go on sale in October, priced from £45,000 with the first deliveries expected early 2014. In total there will only be 3,500 model built, so speed is of the essence.
The mid-engine 4C is a designed and engineered by Alfa, but is built at Maserati’s plant in Modena, Italy. It features a carbon-fibre one-piece monocoque shell weighing in at just 65kg, even the glass has been put on diet, losing 15 per cent when compare to normal glass.
With a small footprint and a wheelbase of 2.38m, it only weighs in at 895kgs (dry) and has 40:60 front/rear weight distribution.
The carbon fibre is exposed in the cabin, dials have been replaced with a digital display and there are composite bucket seats and aluminium pedals. The transmission tunnel houses the button-operated TCT transmission selector and the DNA system selector, which alters the operational parameters of the engine, transmission, ESC and electronic Q2 differential depending on the driver’s requirements.
Alfa Romeo 4C Engine
The 4C is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection 1750cc petrol engine – locate in mid-position. It outputs 240hp at 6,000 rpm and will deliver 350Nm of torque between 2,100 – 4,000 rpm, with 80% of torque available from 1,800 rpm.
It uses "Alfa TCT" dry twin clutch transmission with the Alfa DNA driving mode selector which now features a new “Race” mode for the 4C. There is flat bottomed steering wheel with the paddle shifter being integrated.

The steering is unassisted with the 4C has been set up with track use in mind, featuring ventilated/cross-drilled Brembo 305mm/292mm discs, 17” front wheels, 18” at the rear and a performance-tuned McPherson suspension arrangement.
The steering ratio (16.2) is such as to allow 90% of bends to be taken without having to take your hands off the steering wheel
